Fall is upon us really soon and our great sunny weather with hot tempertures and great visability will be replaced with rainy cold days with dark and low visibility conditions. This is when we must change our driving habits and adjust to the fall and winter driving style and leave more room between us and other cars in front of us. We can only control so much while driving on the streets so taking extra precautions is always a great thing. By precautions I mean making sure your car is in good standing order for the fall and winter weather.
Things to check on your car for night time driving would be making sure your lights are all working including headlights, backup lights and especially brake lights. Changing light bulbs is usually quite easy and replacement bulbs can be bought at all auto parts stores for just a few dollars. With rain and snow hitting the streets you will want to make sure your tires are properly inflated to 32-34psi and that the tread is still sufficient enough to keep you from hydroplaning. If you can afford it a pair of snow tires is always a good thing and having all four is even better. Swapping summer tires with mags to steel rims with snow tires gives you more grip and saves the nice finish on your expensive aluminum or chrome wheels.
Wipers should be replaced once a year before the start of fall as this is when they will be used the most and give you the best visibility in heavy rain. Your wipers rubber insert tends to crack and degrade with extreme heat conditions during the summer so replacement is crucial. Some drivers forget this and use their wipers for 2 to 3 years till their visibity is so poor that they finally have no choice but replace them, but really why wait so long for such an important piece of your car during rainy season. Topping up our windshield wiper fluid is a good thing too as I know many drivers go through this very fast. Windshild wiper fluid is reasonibly cheap and usually costs less then $5 for a 4 liter bottle at most parts stores but don’t wait till you run out as gas stations charge a lot more. You can use a glass cleaner like windex to clean your windows from the inside so when they do fog up they are easier to see through until you defog them with your heater system.
Under the hood you want to check things like engine oil, tranny oil if you have a automatic tranny, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and clutch fluid. If you haven’t replaced your radiator coolant in the last 3 years now is a good time to do it. Old fluid will cause premature water pump failure, poor cooling and will not hold up as well under sub zero tempertures. Depending on the area that you live make sure your antifreeze to water ratio is proper to give you the best cooling and so it doesn’t freeze. Usually it’s a 50/50 mix or in really cold places 70% antifreeze and 30% water will keep it from freezing. 100% antifreeze is not really recommended as this will severely corrode your water pump, block and head.
During fall and winter try to keep your gas gauge above the 1/4 mark as running out of gas in the middle of a snow storm or a torrential down poor is not a happy experience. Traffic tends to be a lot more congested with lots more waiting and idling so having that gas gauge above the 1/4 mark will keep you at ease and less stressed.
I changed 50% of the water in my 45 Gallon last night after adding 6 more Albino Tiger Barbs and 6 Silver Tip Tetra’s. I later discovered that one of the Albino Tiger Barbs was gone so SuperTank must of ate her. so now I have 5 plus 2 that I got eariler this week. One of Tiger Albino Tiger Barbs has a really wired eye on one side, it’s like his right side eye has a really small pupil, very odd. I also noticed 2 days ago that my Angel fish laid some eggs on one of the heaters in the turtle tank. I pulled the heater out and attached it to my 20 gallon tank high enough in the water that the crayfish I got in there won’t eat them. I don’t know if they will turn out as some of the eggs have turned white already, that means they are spoiled.
Today was a very emotional day because our family dog Cezar has ended his journey in this world and is now in doggy heaven. He was born in May 1993 and was put to sleep peacefully today at 2:45pm at the vet. He was 15 years old and has had a good and long life. The last 2 years his quality of life has decreased with arthritis in the back legs, constant poor skin conditions and a big loss in his weight.
He was a great dog, a companion, a true friend, a legend, he was Cezar. He also went by two names the Polish way was Cezar and the Canadian way was Ceazer. He was a dog loved by everyone in the family and loved us back till the end. Cezar and our other dog Rocky were best buds and always watched over one another. When Rocky was sick last year and had to stay 4 days at the vet hospital, Cezar wouldn’t stop looking for him around the house and was constantly waking up to check if his buddy came home. When Rocky did come home Cezar gave him shit by yelling at him and wouldn’t leave him alone, he couldn’t believe his buddy came back. They became even closer after that and slept together side by side.
When Cezar’s old age condition started to really affect him Rocky noticed this and would try to protect him and watch over him. Rocky would start barking to let us know that Cezar needed help getting up as he was to weak in his back legs to get up. Cezar would sometimes have issues walking up the 3 patio stairs, so Rocky would start barking to get our attention so we would lift Cezar up to the patio. Rocky would even put his head on Cezar’s stomach to show him he was there for support and protection. They had a great bond, a true friendship, they were… The Piotrowski Dog Duo Cezar and Rocky.
Rest in Peace Cezar We Miss You.
Leaving work today I decided to got down to Big Al’s fish store and see if they have any cool looking fish. I looked around for a bit and came out with a good variety of tetra’s, barbs and some mickey mouse platies. I put some of the fish in the 29 gallon and the others in my 45 gallon tank and now both my tanks seem way more lively and more interesting to watch.

I like having my water in my tanks really clean so Ichanged the water in my turtle tank 2 days ago but noticed that there was till some small bits of debris floating around. Now usually this was not anything to big to worry about but since I did get an extra XP4 filter a while back I decided to hook that up to the turtle tank and help filter out the water to crystal clear conditions.
I always hear people complaining about turtle tanks because the water always stinks well to tell you the truth I’ve had turtles for almost 1 and a half years now and my water never stinks. If I do come home and there is an odour of an aquarium nature it’s always my fish tanks not the turtle tank. Actually I have never had any kind of smell out of my turtle tank, I mean if you put your nose close to the water you can small a bit of aquarium like scent but nothing that makes your nose cringe. After a few hours of both filters running the water was perfect, so this was a great choice as you can’t over filter but you can always under filter. In the 2nd XP4 filter I am only running the 20ppi foam inserts, 30ppi form Inserts and a polishing pad. I didn’t bother adding a charcoal pack as the 1st filter has a fairly recent one installed and this should be sufficient for now. PPI stands for pores per Inch, the larger number 30 means the foam is more fine and will grab the finer debris. I will run this setup for a while and see how it does.

Last night I went to see the late show of Death Race and I really enjoyed it, it was a good movie and can’t wait to see it again on Blueray. There was lots of fast paced action, hot chicks and tones of flying bullets, Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson are the two main racers and they put on a great show.
Just before the movie started they showed a teaser for the new Fast and Furiuos 4. Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are back so this one should be another great hit, release date is set for June 5, 08
I finally got time today to take some pictures of my new fish so I thought why not put them up on my blog. It was really tricky to take pictures of all three species as they all swim really fast so it was hard to get a proper focus on them. I also found out that my Iridescent shark will grow bigger then my Bala sharks so this should be interesting. I read on the Internet that the iridescent shark can reach up to 36″ long but in most aquarium tanks will keep to about 12 to 16 inches.
