I came home today and noticed something strange Super Tank was lying upside down, I was like crap I lost my last crayfish? I became really disappointed about this as I lost my last baby crayfish a few days ago in my 20 gallon tank. I called up a good friend of mine and told her that I was done with crayfish, as they keep on dieing on me. Interesting enough she had a crayfish for a while too and her’s died earlier this week too.

I was really confused as to why SuperTank would of died but remembered that I fed him the dead crayfish from my 20 Gallon tank 2 days ago. Why that other little crayfish died I believe it might of been because of molting issues, but I was concerned that maybe the little crayfish was sick and now the sickness had killed Supertank. I left the room and came back 5 minutes later and turned on the 2nd light that I have in the 45 gallon tank and guess what, SuperTank Flipped over like a spring HE WAS ALIVE! I was like ok what the heck is he playing games with me now…  My dog Rocky was barking at this time so I left the room and went to feed him. When I came back into the room I noticed SuperTank was upside down again so now I was really confused.

At this time I was like either he is having a really fun time or the chemistry in my tank might be off. So the first thing I did was a PH water test and that was fine at green about 6.6. So then I pulled out my ammonia test kit and did an ammonia test. It was a bit greener then normal but I had to wait 20 minutes so I took 2 more test tubes and performed an ammonia test on my other 2 fish tanks the 20 Gallon and then 29 Gallon.

After those tests I went to wash my hands and when I came back 20 mins later I was shocked, my 20 and 29 gallon tanks were ok but the 45 gallon test was way of the charts. It was completely dark blue. I was surprised that my fish were still alive in there. I quickly drained 80% of the water in the 45 gallon tank and added some new water from the tap + some water conditioner. As soon as I added the 2nd bucket of water into the aquarium tank SuperTank became alive, he instantly became super alert and was snapping at all the fish that came even remotely close to him. Once I finished the water change I also added some Cycle to give the good bacteria a bigger boost to eat up any more existing ammonia in the water. I changed about 30% of water in the 20 and 29 gallon tanks also just in case, as this is the first time I have ever seen my ammonia in any of my tanks be so high. After that I performed another ammonia test on the 45 gallon tank and this time the ammonia was at green, still high but way lower then before. I believe I might of been over feeding my fish in this tank and my chemicals just went through the roof.

Below you can see my ammonia test results. Looks like my 29 Gallon tank was the healthiest, then my 20 gallon. An acceptable result is either yellow or just slightly light green water but as you can see the 45 gallon tank had dark blue and now medium green ammonia levels.  I will do some more tests in the next few days and see how the ammonia looks then, if it’s still high in the 45 gallon tank I will do another big water change to bring it down more.
