I received my first package from the electronics course today and inside was a resistor color guide and 3 resistors. I will be doing a practical exercise this weekend so this might come in handy. Today was a great day as more electronics goodies arrived. My new Arduino Nano and the soil humidity sensor came in the mail today so I managed to open the package up and quickly take a picture for the blog. This is my first update of the electronics course that I am taking and so far everything is going great. I got 100% on my first Exam.
The first part of the course is an orientation on how to get the most out of the program and how to learn it in a way that makes sense to you. Lots of little tricks on learning are explained in this first section and although it was a bit slow, I did like it. Learning this basic information is like clearing the ground so you have room for setting up the foundation of all the electronics knowledge you will learn in the future.
So far in the second section I learned about, current, voltage and resistance, alternating current, direct current, conductors, insulators, resistors, diodes, LED’s and more.

I got my 20×4 J204A character LCD’s and they look really sweet. Now I have 4 rows of 20 characters to display whatever I want, that’s a total of 80 characters of information. WOW That’s awesome!
The hook up to the Arduino is exactly the same on the 20×4 (J204A) LCD as the 16×2 (QC1602A) LCD so its pretty easy to add it to any project. And of course this 20×4 LCD is blue backlit so it looks great in dark or low light areas as well.

Since the beginning of this year, I’ve gotten myself back into electronics and I’m having so much with with it. The recent LCD modules and circuits that I’ve been looking at, have made me even more interested in electronics and how this relates to Robotics.
Its been years since I did any studies in theory of electronics laws like Ohms Law so I’ve been pondering the possibility of taking an online course to sharpen up my skills. I found some online correspondence courses but haven’t decided anything yet.
Bottom line is I want to do this to learn more about electronics as this will allow me to make more fun and powerful circuits which will lead into more complex things like automation and complex logic systems. If I do decide to go with one of these courses I’ll post about it on my blog.Read More
My blue backlit character LCD’s finally arrived today which was actually surprisingly very fast. I took some pictures and made a video showing the difference between the old non-backlit character LCD and the new blue backlit character LCD. As you will see in the video the backlit character LCD definitely made a difference.

Today I purchased some 16×2 and 20×4 blue backlit character LCD’s as they will be a great addition to my future electronics projects.
Recently I’ve been playing around with my humidity and temperature circuit which uses my Arduino compatible MEGA 2560 microcontroller, a resister, a DHT11 humidity and temperature sensor and a 16×2 LCD. This circuit uses the DHT11 to monitor the humidity and temperature, then its processed through my Mega 2560 and then the results are displayed on the 16×2 LCD. The LCD is not backlit so in dark light its not easy to read but once I get my new backlit LCD’s it will make it easy to read in any light.

Today my brother and I went to the local hobby shop, Seb’s RC Shop and he picked a new battery and touch screen fast charger for his sons Traxxas Stampede RC truck.
The charger that he purchased is the Vista Power AK608AC Touch Screen Series VP-F1126B. I seen this charger before but I thought it was all just gimmicks with a touch screen in a charger but after playing with it for a bit I was wrong.
This charger has some really cool features. While charging a 5000Mah NiMH Battery it was measuring capacity, current, voltage, resistance and if you have the addon temp sensor it will even measure peak temperature. It was a great year in 2013 but I lost my motivation to update my blog as a lot of my content was related to topics that I could not update anymore. I don’t own my old 1993 Honda Civic anymore nor my fish tanks so these subjects are out of date and I am not into these hobbies anymore. If I do come back to them in the future I might look at posting about these again but till then these are no more.
So with this in mind I had 2 options, 1 go through my old content and delete those posts or 2 just start a new site with better up to date information and on subjects that I am into now.
