Don't Cook Your Fish in a Heat Wave

Posted On 29 Jul 2009 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish, Convict Cichlids, Crayfish, Firemouth Cichlids, Water Changes and Testing.
Don't Cook Your Fish in a Heat Wave The temperatures in the Lower Mainland have been in the mid 30's for the past 2 weeks and it's causing the water in fish tanks to heat up. So today I decided to change the water in both my tanks and pour in some cold water to even out the temperatures to 78-80 degrees. I know the temperature will still climb up over time, but at least there will be more oxygen in the water for the fish now.  Some of my fish are getting bigger every month as are my turtles in my 125 Gallon tank. My crayfish SuperTank is still kicking well and cruising around my 29 Gallon tank regularly, he hasn't molted for a while but I think he should in the next few months. My baby angel fish is now the size of a loonie and growing nicely. ... Read More

Fish Tank Downsizing Complete

Posted On 19 May 2009 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish.
Fish Tank Downsizing Complete Well the 45 gallon tank is officially down and out, I cleaned the tank and all accessories including the filter on the weekend and it's now ready for Craigslist. The Angel fish from the 45 gallon tank was put into the 29 gallon, her lips aren't getting any better so will see how she does in the next few days and weeks as far as eating is concerned. All the remaining fish that were in the 45 gallon got also transferred into the 29 gallon tank. I was told by my brother that the tetra's that I gave him are already use to his feeding times and techniques and he is quit happy with them. ... Read More

First Treatment of Fungus Cure Turns Tank Green

Posted On 11 May 2009 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish.
First Treatment of Fungus Cure Turns Tank Green I added my first half treatment of the Fungus Cure today and it turned my tank green, but this was needed to see if I can reduce the size of the Angel fish's swollen lips. It says on the bottle that it's suppose to make your tank green for a few days but just cause I like to be safer then sorry so I only added 50% of the treatment and will see what happens. I also cleaned my filter and pulled out the charcoal like it states on the Fungus cure and will add it back after 48 hours to make the water go back to clean color. Will keep you posted what happens ... Read More

Firemouth Cichlid, Large Angelfish Lips and Calcium Blocks

Posted On 07 May 2009 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish, Firemouth Cichlids, Slider Turtles.
Firemouth Cichlid, Large Angelfish Lips and Calcium Blocks I have not posted any articles here for a while as I've been busy with other projects and blogs but since I have some new pictures I thought I would post them up. My large angelfish in the 45 gallon tank has had large swollen lips for a few weeks now so I did some research and found out she has some kind of fungus growth on her lips. So today at lunch I went to Big Al's Aquarium Store and picked up some API Fungus Cure and will try it on the weekend and let you know how it works. As you can see in the picture above, her lips are quit large and swollen. This is the API Fungus Cure I will try this on the weekend and see if my Angelfish lips get smaller. Today I also bought these calcium blocks for my two turtles as they add calcium into their diets to build a healthy strong shell. This is a picture of one of my new Firemouth Cichlids that I bought about a month ago, they are pretty tough fish and always chase my other fish around. My Chinese algae eater and this Firemouth always have standoff's. ... Read More

My Long Weekend of Warcraft, Angel Fish Wigglers and Prison Break Season 4

Posted On 01 Sep 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish, Movies and Entertainment, World of Warcraft.
My Long Weekend of Warcraft, Angel Fish Wigglers and Prison Break Season 4 I played World of Warcraft on Saturday and finally hit level 69, one more till I reach 70. It was a fun time as I haven't played WOW for a while so it was interesting to do a 5 man instance. The expansion that is said to be released this fall will increase this level cap to 80. That means more World of Warcraft this fall during those long winter days.  About 30 to 50 of my angel fish eggs have now turned to little wigglers so will see how that turns out. In case the eggs start falling of the heater I put my fine net breeder into the 20 gallon and put the heater inside there sticking out. SuperTank keeps crawling up my filter pickup and heater tube trying to escape every day but with no sucess. Once he gets to the top he's got no where to go with the lid covering every exit so he just falls down and keeps trucking along till next time.  I watched the first 2 episodes of Prison Break Season 4 today and it was really good. Micheal is back with his brother leading a team to take down the company and Sarah was never killed in the last season so she is helping ... Read More

Spoiled eggs

Posted On 11 Dec 2007 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish.
Spoiled eggs 4 Days ago I found brand new eggs on my shark ornament in the turtle tank from the Angel fish I have in there. I was hoping that they would start wiggling in a few days after so I could pull them out and put them into a secure place where they could grow till they were little fry. 2 nights ago I checked on them again but no wigglers still. I did notice that some of the eggs had fuzz on them already which meant they were going bad and they they were not fertilized properly or something else happened. Well last night I got home and to my disappointment all the eggs were gone and the angel fish were not protecting the area from predictors any more. I guess I have to wait till next time. ... Read More

Baby Angel Fish From Eggs

Posted On 21 Nov 2007 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: AngelFish.
Baby Angel Fish From Eggs Few weeks ago I had my 2 adult size angel fish lay eggs on a shark ornament in my turtle tank and 2 days later they started to wiggle. I grabbed my net and scooped them out into a plastic cup and about 4 days later the eggs turned into little baby fish but still unable to swim just wiggle. I took them out of the cup and into a breeder container that was in my 29 gallon tank and left them there. Well next day i guess they finally started to swim and they swam thru the holes of the breeder container and got eaten by the other fish in the tank. I did manage to take a picture of how they looked in the breeder take a look below you will see them. They had eggs again last week and I a special breeding container made out of netting but again it failed cuz the other fish in the tank ate the wiggling eggs thru the netting. Next time I do it I will use the netted breeder but also put a container in there with a hard bottom so they don't get sucked out. ... Read More
