It's a sad day today as it's an end to an era as my big blue crayfish SuperTank died today. I got him 1 year ago on August 6th, 2008. He was a lighter color of blue when I got him and over the past year he has gotten darker and darker. He was also the most active crayfish out of all the ones that I had and was always climbing my plants to entertain himself.
Here is the last picture of SuperTank, RIP Big Blue.

Don't Cook Your Fish in a Heat Wave

The temperatures in the Lower Mainland have been in the mid 30's for the past 2 weeks and it's causing the water in fish tanks to heat up. So today I decided to change the water in both my tanks and pour in some cold water to even out the temperatures to 78-80 degrees. I know the temperature will still climb up over time, but at least there will be more oxygen in the water for the fish now. Some of my fish are getting bigger every month as are my turtles in my 125 Gallon tank. My crayfish SuperTank is still kicking well and cruising around my 29 Gallon tank regularly, he hasn't molted for a while but I think he should in the next few months. My baby angel fish is now the size of a loonie and growing nicely. ... Read More
SuperTank's 2nd Molting
Posted On 10 Dec 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish.
SuperTank molted on Monday, the 2nd time since I got him and it's great to see he is doing well. He has also been moving rocks out of his little den for the past week. None of the fish seems to bother him and once in a while he catches one for fun and eats them. All the Lyretail platies are gone now as they must of been eaten by him. I am not upset, after all he is a crayfish.
I had some time last night so I cleaned my turtle auxilary XP4 filter and also my 45 Gallon XP3 Filter. ... Read More
SuperTank Reflections
Posted On 17 Nov 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish, Featured.
Here is a picture I took of my crayfish SuperTank when he was sitting on top of a floating plant in my 45 gallon aquarium. The reflection looked really cool so I decided to take a picture.
He seems to be doing very well after his last molting session and has eaten a few of my fish which is expected of such a smart crayfish. At times I catch him trying to crawl up the eater tube or climbing the ornaments in the aquarium then positioning his back toward the top and suddenly jolting up to the top of the aquarium. He has quite the personality and always fun to watch. ... Read More
My Crayfish SuperTank Molted Yesterday
Posted On 10 Oct 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish.
I did some water changes yesterday because SuperTank was behaving really weird and because my ammonia was too high and soon after that, SuperTank molted for the first time. Well being his size I'm sure he has molted lots of times before but since I got him this is the first time. He will eat his old shell in a day or so and regain the lost calcium from shedding.
SuperTank After Molting. As you can see he has already regained his dark blue color. ... Read More
Cleaned Up My Tanks and Some Food For SuperTank
Posted On 19 Aug 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish, Filtration and Setup, Water Changes and Testing.
I came home today and started feeding my fish when I noticed that my crayfish in the 29 gallon died and this is the 2nd one in that tank. I was a bit surprised so I checked the water for PH and it was good, I think it might of died while trying to molt. I pulled the dead guy out and gave it to my other bigger crayfish SuperTank for dinner and once again he scarfed it down very quickly. Even the pleco tried to munch on the remains while SuperTank was busy cruising around the tank.
After watching this for a bit I started my 20 and 29 gallon water change. I changed 50% of water in the 20 gallon and about 2/3's of water in the 29 Gallon. Now they say your suppose to only change 20% at a time but both my tanks are very well aged with lots of bacteria on everything so they re-establish themselves really quickly. Plus my 29 Gallon that I changed 2/3's of water also has a canister XP3 filter that holds like 4 Gallons of water with lots of beneficial bacteria so there is no need to panic. I just make ... One of My Crayfish Died Yesterday
Posted On 13 Aug 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish.
I was feeding my aquarium pets late last night and discovered that one of my crayfish in my 29 Gallon tank has died, too bad because he was a really cool crayfish. I was gonna throw him away but decided to feed him to SuperTank in the 45 Gallon so he can use the calcium and meet to his benefit. When I woke up this morning there was only about 20% left of the dead crayfish, SuperTank ate him like there was no tomorrow. So now I am down to 1 crayfish in my 20, 29 and 45 gallon. ... Read More

I got a new crayfish on the long weekend and named him SuperTank. Why SuperTank you ask? Well my first crayfish I got was named Tank but he died a few months later so I decided to name this crayfish SuperTank as he looks really tough and is really big. He is an Australian Blue Crayfish and has feelers that spread to more then 10 inches. Soon as I get a video of him I will post it on the site.

Homer Has Died :(

On the weekend my favorite crayfish Homer, just a day after molting died from unknown causes. He was getting bigger and bigger and I really liked him as he was really cool and mellow to look at in my 29 Gallon tank. After molting he was very orangy color which was odd, but i thought maybe cause he was getting bigger he might change to a different color but I was wrong. ... Read More

New Pets Added To The Group!
Posted On 30 Jan 2008 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish, Dwarf Frogs.
I got 5 new dwarf frogs for my 20 gallon tank and and 1 new red female lobster for my 10 gallon tank yesterday. Too many frogs to name and hard to tell them apart so they didn't get any names but the lobster is a girl so I named her Ruby Red. Ruby is not scared of me at all and tried to escape from the tank with in 10 mins of being put into the 10 gallon tank.
This is a picture of all 5 new Dwarf forgs and my old timer female in the middle.

Homer the crayfish is so much more active after molting.
Posted On 02 Dec 2007 By Bart Piotrowski. Under: Crayfish.
Watching my aquariums tonight I noticed something I have been speculating for a while. Ever since Homer molted he is ever so active and is not scared of me at all. Before he molted this very last time he was so scared and was always sleeping under his shell or in his treasure chest home, but these days he is out and about all the time and sometimes even trying to catch a fish that's gets to close. He seems to have a lot more energy and is always climbing a new plant that I stuck to the back of his tank.

My 5 Aquariums
It all started on Dec 26, 06, it was boxing day and I bought myself a 10 Gallon aquarium kit from Petcetra.I started with some neon tetras and some dwarf frogs. Well sure enought a month later I bought my 2nd aquarium a 20 gallon that I put a crayfish into it and some black mollies and red platies. Well 8 months later I have two 10 gallon breeders, 20 gallon frog tank, 29 gallon crayfish tank and a 45 gallon turtle tank.I have a good assortment of fish and aquatic life and man I love it's always fun to watch each tank every night as things are always going on. Each tank is like it's own ecco system totally different style and pace of life every single second of each day. Now you say why 5 fish tanks, well each one is setup to house different aquatic life, the 45 gallon has turtles, 29 gallon has a crayfish, 20 gallon has dwarf frogs and the two 10 gallons are for breeding fish.

Mr. Tank has Molted!

Mr. Tank has Molted!
I get home today and guess what it's feeding time for my fish, frogs and Mr. Tank. I feed the frogs and fish first as always and then start dropping shrimp pellets for Tank to eat. I look inside Tanks home and then I notice something crazy there is 2 of them. I was like what the heck how do I have 2 lobsters now. So I lift up the shell and guess what Tank has molted, his outer exoskeletin is lying on one side of his home and he is on the other. I flip his exoskeletin remains to the front of the fish tank and i took these great photo's..
Amazing to see that when he molts he even gets new whiskers.
He only molted a day ago and as you can see, he has already
gained his full color back and has grown to a much larger scale..
Now I will have to watch to see when he will molt again and how long between each molting process. ... Read More

Hello Boys Welcome to the Tank!
On February 3, 2007 I got myself a crayfish named Tank. He has big claws with bright orange knuckles and is about 3" long. After seeing how cool he looks I went back the the pet store next day and picked up another crayfish and this time I named him Homer.
Now as far as why i named the first one Tank, well he was gonna be the master of the fish tank and Homer got his name from always hiding in his treasure chest home.

Unfortunately Homer being the bigger of the 2 crayfish started bullying Tank around the fish tank and they started to scrap a lot of the time. During the day I didn't really notice to much with working and all day but during the night it was getting pretty bad so I had to make a decision to ship one crayfish to my dads well established fish sanctuary. He has one 33 gallon tank and two 10 gallons tanks. Homer is in one of the 10 Gallon tanks and last time i heard he is busy away making his ... Read More
