Orion MPCV The New Deep Space Vehicle

The Orion Multi Purpose Crew Vehicle or MPCV is going to be the new deep space travel vehicle as the retiring Space Shuttle cannot leave Earth’s lower orbit.

The Space Shuttle was great at delivering modules, supplies and science experiments to the International Space Station but now NASA is looking at doing some deep space travel to further explore our universe.

Check out the video below for a some great information about Orion MPCV from NASA, and for even more information click HERE for a direct link to NASA’s website page about Orion.

UrtheCast Planet Earth HD Streaming Video

UrtheCast is the first Planet Earth HD Streaming Video feed that is set to launch very soon. This should be interesting as it will give everyone on Earth the opportunity to view that Earth from such a rare view that only privileged Nasa Astronauts have seen.

My older brother has been fascinated with a website that tracks all the satellites in Earth’s orbit called www.n2yo.com and I thought that was cool, but this is a whole other story.

If you wish to track the International Space Station’s orbit click Here and to go to the UrtheCast website click Here, or just enjoy the movie below.

Windows 8 a Video From Microsoft

The new Windows 8 is scheduled to be release in 2012 which is not that far away but I know a lot of people are just getting use to the new look of Windows 7 so this is gonna be a big change. I recently read on a blog somewhere that Windows 7 has finally surpassed the number of licensees loaded with Windows XP and is now the top used Microsoft OS.

The new look of Windows 8 is very interesting and future driven, the one thing that I was scared about was would it run old applications and the answer is yes. It looks like it will still run current non-touch screen applications just like before but with more versatility, and mouse and touch pads are still gonna be supported. As you may notice its based on tiles but still has the bottom Start Bar if needed.

Well with no further blabbing by me, check out he video below and judge for yourself. This Video was released June 1st so it will surely change a before release in 2012 but its nice to see the new concept now.

Intel 510 Series Solid State Drives

Intel has some new SSD Hard Drives on the block, called the 510 Series with speeds up to 500 MB/s Reads and 315 MB/s Writes. There are two sizes available 120GB and 250GB, the 120GB is a bit slower but stills packs a punch.

Today’s price is around $300 Canadian for the 120GB and $600 Canadian for the 250GB

I can just imagine how fast two Intel 510 Series 250GB SSD’s would be when using them with Raid 0. Right now I am running two Seagate 500GB Baracuda’s with Raid 0 and I get around 120 MB/s read speed so this would be more then 8 times faster at around 1000 MB/s. This would be great for a gamer PC or overall faster Windows 7.

Specs of the Intel 510 Series SSD Hard Drives:

250GB Capacity

  • 34nm NAND Flash Memory multi-level cell compute-quality components
  • Read Latency 65 microseconds
  • Write Latency 80 microseconds
  • 2.5 inch form factor
  • Operating Temperature 0 to 70 Degrees Celcius
  • 1.2 Million Hours Mean time Before Failure (MTBF) Life Expectancy
  • Bandwidth:
  • Sustained Sequential Reads up to 500 MB/s (SATA 6GB/s) or up to 265 MB/s (SATA 3 Gb/s)
  • Sustained Sequential Writes up to 315 MB/s (SATA 6GB/s) or up to 240 MB/s (SATA 3 Gb/s)

Terk Directional Indoor Amplified HDTV Antenna Review

Over the last few weeks I had a chance to try out the Terk Directional Indoor Amplified HDTV Antenna and for my location in the lower mainland of Vancouver it was a bit bleak. I managed to get 2 digital channels but only 480i resolution and 4 analog channels but those were very snowy.

My brother on the other hand who is about 15km away and over a hill, received 4 digital HD 1080i channels and 4 analog ones with the same antenna. I guess his location and better signal strength made the difference. This antenna also came with an inline powered signal booster that really made the difference so make sure you use this if you buy this product. Esthetically the antenna is clean and pleasant looking so it doesn’t cause an eye soar on a shelf.

So overall its a decent antenna as long as your in a good reception area; this would normally depend on how far you are from the local TV Station Antenna and if you have a lot of interference from power lines.

Features:

Directional UHF element reduces signal interference

Optimized for HDTV reception

UHF and VHF elements for reception of all available broadcasts (Channels 2- 69)

Specifications:

Dimension – Base 13″ W x 9.125″ H x 16″ L

Opating Bandwidth: VHF channel 2-13, UHF Channels 14-69

Output Impedance: 75ohms

Requirements: An HD TV with a built-in tuner or set-top HD receiver.

Movies, Fish Tank and XP4 Filter Cleaning and New Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

The long weekend was very busy for me so I didn’t have time to write some new content so here’s some updates.

After seeing Grown Ups at the theater, the next day I rented Hot Tub Time Machine and then the following day I saw a horror called The Crazies. Hot Tub Time Machine was pretty funny and i give it a 7.5/10 and Crazies was decent so I rank it 6.5/10

On Monday I cleaned my LOOOOONG overdue xp4 filters which were embarrassingly very dirty. I replaced the Bio-Chem Zorb and floss pads in both filters but the bottom foam only in one filter that needed it. I also change some of the water in the tank as it was very dirty. I will watch my ammonia in the next few days toward the weekend and possibly change some more water if the ammonia gets too high.

I also upgraded my Phone from an iPhone 3G to a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 as I got a super deal from my cell phone carrier. Rogers also sent me one of those 3G Internet Rocket Sticks which I still need to test out. Soon as I have some time to play with both I’ll do a review on them.

Tonight I created a new D16Z6 Exhaust video on Youtube and added it to my right side column so check it out when you get a chance.
