Is WARMACHINE Competition for Warhammer 40K? YES… No… You be the judge. Before we get into that, first we need to figure out what is WARMACHINE and how did this question come about.
So this past Saturday my brother Paul called me up to ask me if I wanted to go to a games store that sells Warhammer 40K as he needed to get some primer for his models and to see whats new in the Warhammer 40k world of models. We did a Google search and found a store in Mission, BC which was closer to his house so I decided to pick him up and ride out there to check it out.
The store is called Warcraft Games and man its a cool place to shop. The website is http://www.warcraftgames.ca. Its a very large size store and has lots of Warhammer 40K models in stock including paints and brushes.
But getting back to the discovery of WARMACHINE. We were browsing the merchandise making our way to the back of the store when we noticed some cool looking figurines on the shelf. Well the truth be told my brother was already there as I made my way over to check out what looked to me like some REALLY COOL LOOKING STUFF. After browsing this Steam punk army looking game which looked similar to Warhammer 40K it really intrigued both of us.
I looked through a bunch of these great looking figurines and then decided to look through the magazines and eventually purchase a magazine. During the purchase I was introduced to a Matt the clerk behind the counter who was really courteous and friendly and he asked me where I was from and how long have I been playing WARMACHINE. I told him I was a total noob but he was really nice about it and walked us to the back where all the WARMACHINE game pieces were and gave us a run down how it differs from Warhammer 40K and how great it is to play.
After about 10 minutes of talking to MATT both me and my brother were really intrigued about this new game. Now even though I only bought the WARMACHINE magazine and my brother, his primer for his Blood Angels we were both really excited about this new game.
From what I know so far, WARMACHINE is a strategy game played with little plastic figurines just like Warhammer 40K but with a starter set costing only about $60 bucks instead of about $150 or so for Warhammer 40K. It also seems that you don’t need as many units to play the game so painting the starter set won’t take you as long. The 4 main forces that I know of so far are the Cygnar, Cryx, Khador and the Protectorate of Menoth. So far I like the Cygnar the best as it reminds me of the Ultramarines in Warhammer 40K.
For now this is all that I know about this new game, but stay tuned as I might pickup a Battlegroup in the coming weeks and see whats its all about.
