Have You Checked Your 1993 Honda Civic’s Car Battery

Have you checked your 12Volt car battery under your hood lately?  Yeah that’s what I thought…

For most people it’s hard enough to check their Honda Civic’s engine oil, and checking their battery well that’s another story.

My Suggestion Go Check it.

Honda Tuning Magazine

The weather is getting colder and colder with winter right around the corner and the better your Honda Civic’s battery is doing the better for you. Look for corrosion around the terminals, possible cracks on the casing, loose battery terminals, low electrolyte level, and also voltage using a volt meter. Most new car batteries are sealed so there is no need to add distilled water to raise the electrolyte level but if you do have an old battery, do check the level and add distilled water as needed. Once a year I would also suggest taking off your terminals and cleaning both the posts and terminals with a battery post & terminal cleaner tool. This tool is fairly inexpensive and can be purchased at most car parts stores.

Adding Turbo Then Check Your Air Fuel Ratio

Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) is the ratio of air to fuel in the combustion chamber during the power stroke. This ratio is very important to know when adding on any type of forced induction, whether it be a super charger or a turbo.

After installing a turbo on your Honda Civic it would be a good investment to install an Air Fuel Gauge to monitor the Air Fuel Ratio while the engine is running. I would also recommend taking your car to a shop that has a Dyno to get it tuned properly, otherwise running your engine too lean will blow it up and you’ll have to rebuild it.  Below is a link to D-Series Forums that gives a little bit more information about air fuel ratio while running a turbo.

Install Your Honda Civic Radio Properly or Don’t Install It At All

I was checking over my beater Honda Civic today and noticed that the radio was not working. After taking a closer look I found out that the wiring was all messed up. I pulled the deck out of the dash and fixed the wiring by soldering all the connections instead of using crimp connectors. I find it that soldering two wires together gives you a better connection where as a crimp connector will sometimes give you an intermit and poor connection. I also noticed that the previous radio installer wired up the speakers wrong, the left and right speakers were swapped so the right speaker was playing on the left channel and the left speaker was playing on the right channel. I rewired the whole radio and now it works perfectly.

When making any electrical connections always solder the wires together and use the proper gauge wire for the application. When adding any positive connections straight to the battery always make sure you use a proper size fuse and fuse holder. Always wire in the fuse holder as close to the positive lead of your battery as possible so you don’t have a fire hazard.  If you need to check continuity or that you are getting the proper voltage from your battery use a multimeter. And last but not forgotten, double check your wiring before turning on your electical device so all your efforts are not wasted.

Ignition Kill, Starter Kill, Kill Switch and More

Have you put put a crap load of your hard earned cash into your Honda Civic? And wanna keep adding more because you love to pimp out your ride. Then you must have an alarm or kill switch of some sort, if you don’t then I this is the page for you. You can add a kill switch, start kill or an ignition kill into your car and immobilize it so the common thief can’t steal your Civic, otherwise kiss your car goodbye.

I found a great site that has all three of these write ups and there easy to understand. Here take a look below.

2 More ECU Tuning Options

I had a comment posted by a fellow reader which informed me of 2 other ECU Tuning ways you could go, one is eCtune (Comperable to Hondata) and the other is PGMFI.com (open-source ECU development). Once I really get into the ECU tuning part of my car build I will make sure I look up both of those websites out and find out the best one for me to use.
