Fish Tank Downsizing Complete

Well the 45 gallon tank is officially down and out, I cleaned the tank and all accessories including the filter on the weekend and it’s now ready for Craigslist. The Angel fish from the 45 gallon tank was put into the 29 gallon, her lips aren’t getting any better so will see how she does in the next few days and weeks as far as eating is concerned. All the remaining fish that were in the 45 gallon got also transferred into the 29 gallon tank.

I was told by my brother that the tetra’s that I gave him are already use to his feeding times and techniques and he is quit happy with them.

First Treatment of Fungus Cure Turns Tank Green

I added my first half treatment of the Fungus Cure today and it turned my tank green, but this was needed to see if I can reduce the size of the Angel fish’s swollen lips. It says on the bottle that it’s suppose to make your tank green for a few days but just cause I like to be safer then sorry so I only added 50% of the treatment and will see what happens. I also cleaned my filter and pulled out the charcoal like it states on the Fungus cure and will add it back after 48 hours to make the water go back to clean color. Will keep you posted what happens

Firemouth Cichlid, Large Angelfish Lips and Calcium Blocks

I have not posted any articles here for a while as I’ve been busy with other projects and blogs but since I have some new pictures I thought I would post them up.

My large angelfish in the 45 gallon tank has had large swollen lips for a few weeks now so I did some research and found out she has some kind of fungus growth on her lips. So today at lunch I went to Big Al’s Aquarium Store and picked up some API Fungus Cure and will try it on the weekend and let you know how it works.

As you can see in the picture above, her lips are quit large and swollen.

This is the API Fungus Cure I will try this on the weekend and see if my Angelfish lips get smaller.

Today I also bought these calcium blocks for my two turtles as they add calcium into their diets to build a healthy strong shell.

This is a picture of one of my new Firemouth Cichlids that I bought about a month ago, they are pretty tough fish and always chase my other fish around. My Chinese algae eater and this Firemouth always have standoff’s.

Convict Cichlid Showing It’s True Colors

I’ve been watching my 2 new Convict Cichlids and the bigger one has been chasing the little guy around the tank for a while now. At first I thought it was just for fun but last night I saw the smaller one hiding behind my pirates chest and scanning around him in a cautious way. He was watching for the whereabouts of the bigger one.

So since I have the 29 Gallon tank with no other aggressive fish I decided to move the little guy over to that tank and see how he adapts to all the tetras in that tank. He will soon have one of my baby angel fish to keep him company as they are both of a cichlid variety. There might be a power struggle there later with the angel fish but will tackle that hurdle when we get there.

Two Convict Cichlids In My 55 Gallon Tank

I went to Big Als Aquarium store today after work and picked up 2 Convict Cichlids. I read online that they can get pretty aggressive but so far they seem to be fitting in very well. I have 3 tanks so if they get bigger and start bullying the other fish around I can always make a tank for them. They grow to about 12cm or 4.5″ long so they do get bigger but not to big. One is bigger then the other but they seem to be buddy’s in my tank right now. Everywhere they swim they swim together and are very cautious fish. They seem to posses a lot more intelligence then the average live bearer. At first I was a bit worried because my large angel fish was eyeing up my larger convict but he stood his ground and then swam away cautiously. I will watch them closely for the next few months and if needed, I can adjust my tanks to match there behaviour.

The smaller one is about 2cm and the bigger one is about 3cm

Here is another image of my larger Convict Cichlid.

My Long Weekend of Warcraft, Angel Fish Wigglers and Prison Break Season 4

I played World of Warcraft on Saturday and finally hit level 69, one more till I reach 70. It was a fun time as I haven’t played WOW for a while so it was interesting to do a 5 man instance. The expansion that is said to be released this fall will increase this level cap to 80. That means more World of Warcraft this fall during those long winter days.

About 30 to 50 of my angel fish eggs have now turned to little wigglers so will see how that turns out. In case the eggs start falling of the heater I put my fine net breeder into the 20 gallon and put the heater inside there sticking out. SuperTank keeps crawling up my filter pickup and heater tube trying to escape every day but with no sucess. Once he gets to the top he’s got no where to go with the lid covering every exit so he just falls down and keeps trucking along till next time.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Prison Break Season 4 today and it was really good. Micheal is back with his brother leading a team to take down the company and Sarah was never killed in the last season so she is helping them out too. Sucre, Mahone and Bellick are also part of the team, so we shell see what happens next week as this new story unfolds.

New Albino Tiger Barbs and Silver Tip Tetra’s in My 45 Gallon

I changed 50% of the water in my 45 Gallon last night after adding 6 more Albino Tiger Barbs and 6 Silver Tip Tetra’s. I later discovered that one of the Albino Tiger Barbs was gone so SuperTank must of ate her. so now I have 5 plus 2 that I got eariler this week.  One of Tiger Albino Tiger Barbs has a really wired eye on one side, it’s like his right side eye has a really small pupil, very odd. I also noticed 2 days ago that my Angel fish laid some eggs on one of the heaters in the turtle tank. I pulled the heater out and attached it to my 20 gallon tank high enough in the water that the crayfish I got in there won’t eat them. I don’t know if they will turn out as some of the eggs have turned white already, that means they are spoiled.

Bala Shark, Iridescent Shark and Blue Tetra Images

I finally got time today to take some pictures of my new fish so I thought why not put them up on my blog. It was really tricky to take pictures of  all three species as they all swim really fast so it was hard to get a proper focus on them. I also found out that my Iridescent shark will grow bigger then my Bala sharks so this should be interesting. I read on the Internet that the iridescent shark can reach up to 36″ long but in most aquarium tanks will keep to about 12 to 16 inches.
