Mission Raceway Drag Video

This is my first drag race video at Mission Raceway with my 1993 Honda Civic. The video of the 16.40 quarter mile time was too shaky so this one will do. The time was 16.54 @ 85MPH for quarter mile.

Mission Raceway Was a Success

I did my first Mission Raceway event today and it was a success. I did 4 runs down the drag strip and my best time was 16.401 @ 85.68MPH and reaction time of .726. I was told that the reaction time is only used if your racing against someone else and does not matter to your quarter mile time but I will have to investigate this farther so this may be wrong. I will post a video soon as I can get it on youtube.

Here is my timeslip results for this race.

R/T  … .726
60′ … 2.610
330 … 7.010
1/8 … 10.627
MPH … 67.34
1000 …13.778
1/4 … 16.401
MPH … 85.68

Tail Light Repair

Yesterday I finally got around to swapping out my water filled non working tail light with a spare one I picked up a few months back. I had to remove some clips and a few screws to move the inner molding out of the way to get to the light mounting nuts. I used a 8mm combination wrench to undo the 4 nuts that held the light to the car, unplugged the harness and pulled the light out.

Part of my problem with water in the tail light, is a crack in the body seam and a bad hatch seal. I swapped the tail light wiring harness from my other Civic since I am not driving it right now.  I plugged the wiring harness back into the car and placed the tail light into place. Then used the 8mm wrench and tightned up the 4 mounting nuts. Once that was in place I smeared some silicone on the cracked hatch seam and pushed the hatch seal back in place.

I screwed all the inner body panels into place and tested the lights and they all work. When I start doing the body work on the car for painting I will change the hatch seal so it’s new again and for sure won’t have leakage problems.

I pulled off the rear driver’s side tail light and noticed this crack in the seam.

I swapped the wiring harness from my other civic as this one was all rusted and corroded.

There are 4 screws that hold the light on the inside of your car.

Working On The D15 Civic

Saturday I opened up the hood of the D15 Civic and pressure washed the engine bay, but being careful not to spray water on the distributor. I covered the distributor with a rag and plastic bag to protect it. When I was done spraying it off I got my air compressor out and used compressed air to blow off any water around all electrical plugs and air hoses. I had a friend of mine helping me out so it went really fast and once I was done she asked what those black plugs on top of the valve cover were. I told her they were spark plug wires and that she could pull one out and look at the plug down below. She tried but was scared not to break anything so I pulled one out and then something caught me of guard. When I pulled the plug wire out of the valve cover hole it was full of oil! I said crap how did that get in there. From what I know the only way oil could be in there is from bad plug hole seals. I checked all the plug wires for all cylinders and they were all the same. I ran out of time that day to investigate further but next time I get a chance I will clean out the oil and see if I can used my spare valve cover from my old D15 engine which should have better seals.
